Introduction

Wigan Phoenix, based at The Hesketh Arms, Shevington Moor, Standish, is a voluntary organisation whose aim is to promote and pursue athletics in Wigan and the surrounding area.

Wigan Phoenix is primarily a road running and cross country club, which was formed in 1987.

Our active membership is currently around 100 and we welcome any runner over the age of 11.

Our membership includes juniors, seniors and veterans of both sexes. Our youngest member is 13 and our oldest active member is 67.

In our 18 year history we have had over 300 members associated with the club. Our members have represented their county and their country from 5k to 100k and we participate actively in everything we do - whether national championships or social events.

Please note that we offer various standards of interval sessions to suit all abilities.

All you need to do is just to turn up, introduce yourself to anyone on hand and say that you want to start and we can explain the usual routines. You don’t have to join straight away. We can offer friendly help and advice on many aspects of running/training. We have members from all walks of life with a common interest in running and athletics. Come along and run for fun or to train or for company during those long dark winter nights. There is no special commitment required at all; it’s more a question of what you want to put in to it. You will be welcome, whatever your age, sex or ability, whether you are training for fitness, losing weight or marathon training, road racing, fell running, or any -athlon you care to mention. You don’t have to be an elite runner.
