Standish Hall Trail Race 18th February 2006 The 7th running of the Standish Hall Trail Race produced a cracking race with 5 runners in with a shout until the closing stages. Adam Peers, a promising junior from Liverpool Harriers, led almost throughout and edged out Sale Harrier, Rick Hayman, by 3 seconds in a time of 35.43 with fellow Liverpool Harrier, Glen Groves, third in a time of 35.53 The ladies race was also won by another young and exciting prospect, Katie Ingram from Horwich RMI, in a time of 40.28 with Wigan Phoenix runner, Rachael Moore, second in 41.48. Another junior, Lauren Howarth from Leigh Harriers, was third in 42.29. Despite the glorious late winter weather the muddy conditions after the recent downpours ensured that Paul Cadwallader’s and Anne Washington’s course records of 34.35 and 38.44 both from the very first and very dry race remained intact. It was a good day for the Howarth family – in addition to Lauren’s success father John was first vet over 40 and sister Rebecca was first junior lady The race, growing in popularity since its inaugural run in March 2003, attracted a record field of 238 entries, 100 more than the previous best. The race is staged twice yearly in Feb/March and October/November and the next is provisionally scheduled for Saturday 14th October. The link to the full results are here.
